On March 28, Beijing Forestry University inaugurated the Green Intelligence Research Center under the National Key Laboratory of Efficient Forest Resource Production. Jointly established with Yixin Technology and East Lake Big Data, the center aims to build a strategic think tank through AI and big data to bolster national ecological security and green development.
The center will focus on six core areas, including ecological security, grain and oil security, carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, biodiversity conservation, forest and grass industry upgrading, green development. It will integrate key technologies such as open-source intelligence analysis and multi-source data fusion to systematically address critical technical challenges like ecological security early warning, independent innovation of germplasm resources, and precise carbon sequestration measurement. Wang Hongyuan, Chairman of BFU counsel, delivered a speech and emphasized:" big data and AI present unprecedented opportunities for sustainable development. The center will combine the laboratory's research strengths with corporate innovation to create a national-level platform for talent and resource integration, positioning itself as a guardian of ecological security and a leader in green transformation."
Laboratory Director An Lizhe outlined the center's mission as a digital-driven hub for modernizing ecological governance. It will establish cross-departmental data-sharing mechanisms and provide real-time decision-making support for major national ecological projects.
Sun Tiecheng, Chief Scientist of the center and senior expert at the China International Science Promotion Association, highlighted the center's pioneering role as China's first specialized green intelligence institution. The center's planned national ecological database is expected to translate academic research into policy tools, enhancing BFU's global influence in green finance and sustainable development.
Huang Jing, Chairman of Yixin Technology and center director, stressed that open-source intelligence relies on legally accessible public data to deliver comprehensive and reliable insights. "The fusion of ecological and intelligence research will redefine green governance paradigms," he stated.
During post-launch discussions, experts unanimously agreed the center will accelerate the shift toward data-driven environmental governance. Future priorities of the center include advancing open-source intelligence innovation, building a global-standard ecological data system, and contributing China's solutions to global sustainability challenges.
