BFUer Clinches Gold at National College Students' Foreign Language Skills Competition

The 2024 "FLTRP·ETIC Cup 'Understanding Contemporary China' International Communication Contest" was held in Beijing in December 2024. Liu Kuangdi from the School of Foreign Languages at BFU secured the National Gold Award in the Final, guided by faculty member Yu Yangyang.

This year, the contest introduced an innovative format that integrated public speaking, reading and writing competitions, presenting fresh challenges to participants.

Liu, who won the Gold Award in the Beijing Division of the competition, demonstrated exceptional performance throughout both provincial and national levels. In the impromptu speech segment of the final, he was challenged to speak on "China's role in combating climate change". Drawing inspiration from the ecological civilization initiatives in his hometown, he highlighted China's commitment to its global environmental responsibilities.He credited this achievement to the guiding principles of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, advancements in green technology, and the vision of building a shared future for mankind. His exceptional language proficiency and intercultural communication skills impressed the judges, ultimately clinching him the National Gold Award and filling BFU with pride.

The 2024 contest witnessed increased participation, with over 1,300 universities and colleges involved and covering 11 languages, including English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Arabian, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, and Chinese as a second language for foreign learners.  Attracting nearly 700,000 college students nationwide, the contest provides a vibrant platform for students in China to showcase their linguistic prowess and international communication skills.

Under the theme "Understanding Contemporary China, Communicating with the World," the series of foreign language contests aimed to deepen college students' understanding of China, enhance their intercultural communication competence and provide a platform for sharing diverse perspectives on China's development and evolving narratives.

The "FLTRP·ETIC Cup: 'Understanding Contemporary China' International Communication Contest" was organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University in collaboration with Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP).
