The “Innovative Sustainable Forest Management Education in the Asia-Pacific Region” program, led by BFU and University of British Colombia (UBC), won the “Global Forestry Education Best Practice Award” at the just-concluded IUFRO 2019 XXV World Congress. This program is sponsored by APFNet (Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management). Out of a total of 71 proposals from 23 countries, only two won the top award. The organizers of the competition highly praised the pedagogical quality, novelty and practical effectiveness of the “Innovative Sustainable Forest Management Education in the Asia-Pacific Region” program. The organizers hoped that the winners could continue their efforts in playing a leading role in the global forestry education and share their successful experience at the IUFRO World Congress and even on a broader international stage to make greater contribution to the development of global forestry education.

The “Innovative Sustainable Forest Management Education in the Asia-Pacific Region” program, jointly developed by BFU, UBC and some partner institutions, was initiated in 2013. It aims to provide on-line teaching and interaction through an open network course platform. It has greatly promoted the cross-regional sharing of high-quality forestry education resources in the region and therefore created better conditions for higher level of internationalization of their students and enhanced education cooperation among forestry universities.
