From December 4th to 5th, the National Forum for Outstanding Forestry Students in Agriculture and Forestry Colleges was held at BFU, which was co-organized by BFU and Chinese Education Association of Forestry, and co-undertaken by the College of Forestry and Key Laboratory of Forest Cultivation and Protection of the Ministry of Education of BFU.
Yin Weilun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, made a keynote report entitled “Thinking on the Development of First-Level Discipline of Forestry”. In his report, he focused on the international development trend and demands of forestry industry, the development law and status of forestry discipline, and the innovative development of first-level discipline of forestry. Thinking on the level of China’s ecological civilization, he sorted and analyzed the current international and domestic strategic position of forestry disciplines in a systematic way. Based on the characteristics of forest biology, forest tree genetics and breeding, silviculture, forest resource management, forest protection, soil and water conservation and desertification combating, he elaborated how to innovate forestry discipline and what should be prioritized, and pointed out where should the discipline go and what should be studied firstly. He said that China’s forestry has entered a period of multi-functional modern forestry management, and modern forestry development is a key step to realize ecological civilization. The development of first-level discipline of forestry must keep pace with the times to promote the ecological civilization in China to achieve new progress.
It is reported that 222 students from 20 agricultural and forestry universities in China, including Chinese Academy of Forestry, Beijing Forestry University, Northeast Forestry University, Nanjing Forestry University and Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, have contributed to the academic forum which consists of five sub-forums on three themes: forest cultivation and forest soil, forest protection and bio-security, and forest management and smart forestry, and 125 students from 20 agricultural and forestry universities across the country shared their academic reports in each sub-forum. More than 2,500 teachers and students participated in the forum online and offline.
