“Cloud Tour” Built a Bridge for Sino-German Youth Exchange -- BFU Co-undertook Sino-German Summer Exchange Camp

2021-12-09

How do German young students feel about the Beijing Olympic Park? What kind of experience is “cloud tour” of ecological conservation and landscaping? The answers to these questions can be found in the Sino-German summer exchange camp, a series of International Youth Online Dialogue--“Social Governance · Youth Engagement”.

The Sino-German summer exchange camp was organized by the Communist Youth League Committee and jointly undertaken by the International College of BFU and the Brandenburg Sports Youth Federation of Germany. The event, carried out online and onsite with more than 30 participants from China and Germany, aims to encourage young people from all countries to build a platform for communication and dialogue to promote mutual learning through experience sharing and exchange between Chinese and German volunteers, so as to boost China-Germany friendly exchanges and youth public welfare activities.

The two sides shared and discussed their youth voluntary public service activities upon the theme of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, committed to encouraging more volunteers to participate in youth activities and social work projects and take sports as a bridge to carry out a series of public welfare activities.

During the online meeting, the Head of the International Liaison Department of the Beijing Youth League Committee briefly reviewed the history of the Sino-German Exchange Camp, introduced the purpose of this activity, and expressed his concern and expectation for the young people to actively participate in social governance. Youth representatives from Youth Sports Federation of Brandenburg, Germany and BFU shared their representative youth volunteer projects.

In the off-line activities, students from the School of Landscape Architecture of BFU gave a detailed explanation of the ecological protection and landscape design of the Winter Olympics that BFU was involved in. Some Chinese and foreign student representatives went to the Olympic Forest Park and introduced the history, structure, plant composition, engineering technology and ecological protection design of the Olympic Forest Park for the German campers. As an important part of the “Green Olympics”, the Olympic Forest Park provides habitat for animals and space for local residents to roam freely and get close to nature while making contribution to the Olympics.

At the end of the event, the young representatives gave their best wishes to the Winter Olympic Games and exchanged their experiences. Germany representatives extended their heartfelt thanks to youth volunteers for their diligence. They thought that the Olympics would play a significant role in pushing forward“the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” of the UN, and through this great chance help the youth to strengthen their cognition for the future. They believed that international volunteer work experience will equip the young students with better social quality and moral quality. Chinese students also benefited a lot from the volunteer activities and organizational management methods shared by the German youth representatives. They said: “we realized that innovation, construction and sustainability are the key to ecological progress, and we youth will definitely become the backbone of sustainable development.”

According to the International College, they will further cooperate with the German Brandenburg Sports Youth Federation to carry out international exchange programs and other projects, jointly drive the Chinese and German youth volunteers to learn from each other, and provide opportunities for them to discover and recognize different societies and cultures.

The Brandenburg State Sports Youth Federation, founded in 1990, is a non-profit youth organization working independently in the Brandenburg state sports federation. Through the form of sports clubs and associations, the association, being committed to the all-round development of youth, encourages and supports youth solidarity, cooperation and joint endeavor as well as promotes the combination of youth sports and youth social work. Organized by 2,800 sports associations for children, youth and youth representatives, it is the largest youth federation in Brandenburg with about 137,000 members under the age of 27.
