In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the 69th anniversary of the founding of Beijing Forestry University (BFU), and pay tribute to the elder generation of forestry scientists and educators represented by Mr. Liang Xi, the original play “Liang Xi” was performed in Tin Ka Ping Gymnasium from October 15 to 17.
The hero of the play Liang Xi, whose name is also the name of the play, was a famous forestry educator and social activist, one of the founders of the jusan society as well as the People's Republic of China's first minister of forestry and land reclamation. The play vividly shows the noble quality of the elder generation of forestry scientists and technologists represented by Liang Xi, including the dedication to motherland and forestry, the character of integrity and honesty, perseverance and endeavor as well as the scientific spirit of being rigorous, truth-seeking, pioneering and innovative. These quality will provide guidance to young students and scientists in their ways to pursue their original aspiration and shoulder the mission of them in the new era.
The play “Liang Xi” gives full expression to BFUers’ deep memory of Mr. Liang. They are willing to “recall the original aspiration and bear the mission of people who are committed to forestry”, carry on his will of “transforming rivers and mountains of motherland into splendid embroiders and land into paintings”, practice the school motto of “exploring rivers and mountains, cultivating trees and people”, and devote themselves to the great practice of green cause with confidence and determination.
The play “Liang Xi” was first performed in 2019 with all actors coming from the Student Drama Troupe of BFU. This year, with the strong support of the BFU Party Committee, the cast, overcoming multiple difficulties including the impact of the epidemic, spent more than 8 months on the selection of actors and the rehearsal of the performance, and performed again on the 69th anniversary of the founding of BFU. On the basis of the original performance, this re-show refines the old one with more artistic details, extremely varied and expressive stage and lighting design as well as improving content to make it more dramatic and spectacular while strengthening instructive and ideological significance.
Leaders expressed their sincere solicitude and congratulations to the cast when the play ended, and encourage the teachers and students to drive away at working and learning in the spirit of Liang Xi, devoting themselves to the development of forestry industry, ecological civilization in the new era for the greater achievement.
BFU will hold a summing-up seminar to conduct the communication and discussion as well as topic-based learning of “Liang Xi” for further improvement of the performance, so as to strengthen the brand effect and explore the replicability of the mode, promoting play “Liang Xi” to go out of the campus and expand its influence.
It is reported that a total of 5,000 people from both inside and outside the university watched the performance, and tens of thousands of alumni from home and abroad watched the live broadcast of the drama through green China Network TV Finance media platform, BFU Youth Video platform and other live streaming platforms., and the play was warmly received and highly praised by online and offline audiences.
