On October 16, the 69thAnniversary of the Founding of BFU and the One-year Countdown Ceremony of the 70th Anniversary of BFU were held. With the theme of “persisting the red original aspiration, undertaking the green constant mission”, the ceremony, at the important historical point of the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, encourages the teachers and students to continue to stay in line with the needs of the country’s development and the times, and gather strong intellectual impetus for the construction of a world-class forestry university rooted in China.
Yin Weilun, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and former President of BFU, Cui Peng, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and BFU alumni attended the conference. Teachers and students attended or watched the conference through live broadcast at home and abroad.
Wang Hongyuan, Chairman of the University Council, reviewed and summarized the history of the university during the past 69 years in his speech. He pointed out that BFU is tightly bound to forestry: it was based on forestry and is prospered and strengthened by forestry as well. BFU embodied the spirit of “serving the country through afforestation” in its pioneering and arduous road of school-running. He said that in its 69-year history of pursuing excellence and forging ahead, BFU has achieved four historic transformations and leapfrog development from college to university, single-discipline to multi-discipline, 211 key universities to first-rate university as well as single-campus in Beijing to two-campuses in Beijing and Xiong’an; in its 69-year history of staying true to the original mission and educating people with concentration, BFU has been adhering to the original aspiration of educating people for the Party and the country, cultivating a number of academic masters and industrial talents; in its 69-year history of serving the country and people through afforestation, BFU has participated in a number of major national ecological projects of long-term significance, creating numerous beautiful landscape designs and cultivating a lot of excellent varieties with far-reaching influence.
Wang Hongyuan stressed out that standing at the historical juncture of the 70th anniversary of the founding of BFU, we must stay firm to the leadership of the CPC, bear in mind the “great nation” and adhere to the correct political direction in schooling; we must stay firm to give greater prominence to the construction of the teaching staff, implement the strategy of strengthening the school through talent development, and train a team of high-quality and professional teachers; we must stay firm to implement the fundamental task of fostering talent with moral integrity, uphold integrity and innovation, and strive to cultivate talents of new era to undertake the major responsibility of national rejuvenation; we must stay firm to establish the school mission centering on teachers and students and rely on them to improve our schooling, so as to gather strong strength to overcome difficulties and tackling challenges.
An Lizhe, Vice Chairman of University Council and President of BFU, delivered a speech and extended sincere greetings to all the teachers, students, staff and alumni at home and abroad. He pointed out that since the 13th Five-Year Plan, with unprecedented willpower, our university has been strengthening and improving the construction of the Party to make the leadership of the Party more powerful and BFU a university with more distinctive socialism with Chinese characteristics; with unprecedented perseverance, we have been building a talent training system of “Educating Five Domains Simultaneously”, and significantly improved the ability of cultivating new talents who can undertake the great task of national rejuvenation; with unprecedented efforts, we have been optimizing the layout of disciplines and build a “Wild Goose Queue” discipline system that serves the construction of ecological civilization in the new era and the systematic governance of mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes, grass and sand; with an unprecedented vision, we have been implementing the strategy of strengthening the school with talents, and have been carrying out the “5·5 Project” of talent team construction innovatively to train a team of high-quality teachers; with unprecedented determination, we have been driving forward scientific and technological innovation, and, adhering to the“Four Orientations”, continuously enhancing the ability to serve the national strategy and striving to become an important place for the study, interpretation and practice of Xi Jinping's Thought on Ecological Civilization; with unprecedented broad vision, we have been opening mind, constructing the mechanism of social participation; with unprecedented courage, we have been promoting reform, overcoming difficulties, and constantly improving the school governance system to increase governance efficiency; with unprecedented endeavor, we have been optimizing schooling to improve people’s livelihood, and jointly building a harmonious and progressive home for BFUers.
“Announcement of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of Beijing Forestry University (No.1)” was issued at the conference, and the countdown to the 70th anniversary of BFU was jointly launched by Yin Weilun, Cui Peng, Wang Hongyuan, An Lizhe, Liuyan, teacher representative and one of the distinguished teachers of national “Ten Thousand Talents Plan” , and Liu Jingqi, executive chairman of the Student Union.
On this one-year countdown launch, Wang Hongyuan and An Lizhe jointly unveiled the archives center of BFU. In order to further consolidate the school culture, enhance the school image, standardize the school identification system, and effectively raise the school publicity, the visual image identification system of the BFU was released at the conference.
Lin qiaoling, alumni representative and President of Beijing Green Garden Group Co,. Ltd., reviewed her learning experience at BFU and working experience of inheriting BFU spirit to devote herself to the construction of ecological civilization.
Chu Wenwen, student representative and doctoral candidate of the School of Nature Conservation, who was also the Chinese youth representative of the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity(CBD COP15), gave a speech at the ceremony. She expressed her gratitude to the university for its cultivation and shared her work on nature conservation in Altay, Xinjiang.
Prior to the conference, the BFU chorus volunteers celebrating the centenary of the founding of the CPC performed “We walk on the Road”, “Dreamers”, “New World” and other songs; Representatives of the emeritus and retired, teachers, overseas students and the dedication group of the centennial Celebration of the CPC recited “Youth” together; The video of blessing recorded by faculty and staff representatives and alumni representatives from home and abroad was played as well. In the end, the conference came to a successful conclusion with the chorus of “Ode to the Motherland”.
