Bioenvironmental science of urban and rural human settlements is a comprehensive interdisciplinary discipline. It takes the ecological environment of human settlements as the research object, coordinates the relationship between human and ecological environment, and realizes the sustainable development of urban and rural human settlements in ecological environment. Its construction is based on the cross-discipline integration of landscape architecture, urban and rural planning, and architecture etc., and relies on the Beijing Laboratory of Urban and Rural Ecological Environment. It was established in May 2019 with the approval of Beijing Municipal Education Commission and with the lead of Professor Wang Xiangrong.
The main research areas mainly focus on ecological environment of urban and rural human settlements, such as its theory and method, its protection and restoration, its planning and design, its materials and technologies and its evaluation and monitoring.
At present, bioenvironmental science of urban and rural human settlements is based on the area of Beijing and radiates Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, solving the problems between the construction of ecological environment of regional urban and rural human settlements and the sustainable development. Its faculty presided over a National Key Research and Development Project- the Research on the Construction Mode of Rural Ecological Landscape, completed many research projects and practice, such as the regional ecological planning of Beijing Sub Center (Tongzhou District), the green network renewal of north central axis areas, the planning and design of Beijing Wulituo’s green space in suburban hilly areas, the planning and design of urban green island in the diversion canal of Yongding River, Beijing, the organic renewal of historical and cultural blocks in Beijing, the planning and design of historical and cultural greenway of the Three Mountains and Five Gardens(namely Longevity Hill, Fragrance Hill, Jade Spring Hill, the Summer Palace, Garden of Tranquility and Pleasure, Garden of Tranquility and Brightness, Garden of Everlasting Spring, and the Winter Palace ), and the planning and design of dynamic green corridor of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway. It also forms an academic brand,”2020 Beijing Greenway”.
