The discipline of international trade originated from the major of trade economics, which was founded in 1992. In 1993, it began to enroll undergraduates and junior college students. What’s more, the department of international trade was established in the same year. Since 1995, the direction of international trade has been added as one of undergraduate’s majors. In 1998, the enrollment of junior college students was canceled. In 1999, it was adjusted to the international economy and trade according to the national specialty catalogue. In 2003, it was approved to confer master’s degree in international trade. In 2004, it began to recruit graduate(master-level) students. In 2010, the Ministry of Education(MOE) first set up the master’s degree in international business. Beijing Forestry University(BFU) became one of the first batch of 78 colleges and universities which set up this major, affiliated to the department of international trade. It began to recruit students in 2011. At present, there are 2 master programs in the department of international trade, namely the scientific master program in international trade and professional master program in international business. In the process of students’ cultivation, both the department and the discipline always adhere to the principle of quality priority and comprehensive development. In 2016, it was selected as the key cultivated discipline of the State Forestry Administration(SFA, nowadays the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, NFGA).
At present, there are 16 full-time teachers, 5 doctoral supervisors and 14 master’s supervisors. Among them, there are 1 teacher who are honored the First SFA National Famous Teaching Teacher in Forestry, 1 vice-chairman and 1 deputy secretary-general of China Forestry Economic Association(CFEA, a national first-class association), 1 chairman, 1 vice-chairman, 1 secretary-general and 10 members of the forest products trade committee of CFEA, and 1 director general and 1 secretary general of the National Innovation Alliance for Wood Safety, NFGA. Moreover, its faculty enjoys 1 recipient of the Government Special Allowance of the State Council, 1 Beijing Famous Teaching Teacher, and 2 Baogang Outstanding Teachers etc.
In terms of scientific research, its faculty has published nearly 100 papers in domestic and foreign academic journals, such as Chinese Rural Economy, Issues in Agricultural Economy, Journal of Agricultural Economics, Resources Science, Journal of Natural Resources, Journal of International Trade, International Trade, Journal of Clean Production, Forest Products Journal, Sustainability etc. Among them, there are more than 30 SCI(Science Citation Index) / SSCI(Social Sciences Citation Index) / EI(the Engineering Index) retrieval papers in English. 2 SCI papers are selected as highly cited papers by ESI and 3 papers are full-text reprinted by Renmin University’s Printed Journals and Materials System(an electronic library).
