There has been increasing calls for research attention to the linguistic realizations of rhetorical functions in academic writing among researchers in the fields of EAP, genre analysis, and corpus linguistics. Corpus-based genre analysis holds much promise for revealing systematic relationships between rhetorical functions and linguistic features. This study presents a corpus-based analysis of the rhetorical functions and their linguistic realizations in social science research article introductions. The Corpus of Social Science Research Article Introductions (COSSRAI) consists of the introduction sections of 600 published research articles in six social science disciplines (anthropology, applied linguistics, economics, political science, psychology, sociology). All samples in the COSSRAI were annotated for rhetorical moves and steps using an extensively adapted version of the Create a Research Space (CARS) model (Swales, 2004) by a team of seven researchers. I share findings on the rhetorical functions of phrase-frames and syntactically complex sentences identified in the corpus and discuss the implications of our findings for promoting consistent attention to form-function mappings in academic writing research, pedagogy and assessment.

近年来，学术英语、文体分析及语料库语言学领域的学者对学术英语写作中文体功能的语言表现形式日益关注。基于语料库的文体分析对于揭示文体功能和语言特征之间的系统关系有着巨大的潜力。本研究对社会科学学术论文引言部分文体功能及其语言表现形式进行系统分析。社会科学学术论文引言部分语料库包含来自6个社会科学学科（人类学、应用语言学、经济学、政治学、心理学和社会学）的600篇学术论文的引言部分。我们对创造研究空间模型（Swales, 2004）进行修订并用其对该语料库中的所有样本进行了语步分析。该报告对不同语步中常见的短语框以及复杂句子的文体功能进行系统汇报，并探讨该研究的结果对学术英语写作教学、研究与测试的意义。

主讲人简介：

陆小飞，美国俄亥俄州立大学语言学博士；现任美国宾夕法尼亚州立大学应用语言学系研究生部主任、教授、博士生导师、广东外语外贸大学云山讲座教授、华中科技大学客座教授、中山大学英语水平测试顾问。主要研究领域为语料库语言学、学术英语、二语写作、二语习得及计算机辅助语言教学。在Springer出版专著Computational Methods for Corpus Annotation and Analysis与编著Computational and Corpus Approaches to Chinese Language Learning；在Applied Linguistics、Educational Researcher、International Journal of Corpus Linguistics、Language Testing、TESOL Quarterly、The Modern Language Journal等SSCI权威期刊发表论文近30篇；开发的二语句法复杂度分析器和词汇复杂度分析器得到国际上二语写作与习得研究者的广泛应用。担任中国学术英语教学研究会国际顾问，Cogent Education副主编，Journal of Second Language Writing等多种期刊编委或顾问，Applied Linguistics等40余种国际期刊特约审稿人。主持或参与ETS、美国教育部、美国Spencer基金、中国国家社科基金、教育部社科基金等资助的多个研究项目。
