Message from the President

Beijing Forestry University (BFU) is a key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education (MOE) and jointly funded by both the MOE and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) of China. Its history can be traced back to theforestry specialty of the agronomy faculty set up within the Peking Imperial University that was established as early as 1902.

Equipped with distinctive vintage academic disciplines, highly competitive research platforms, fully competent faculty and lovely campus that provides a most favorable setting for learning, BFU has over the years nurtured over 200,000 high-end forestry professionals and academics, including 16 CAS and CAE academicians. The forestry and landscape architecture disciplines of the university, which have been listed under the country’sShuangyiliuHigher Education Optimizing Initiative, stand out particularly competitive among their counterparts in both China and the international community. Seven of the disciplines offered by the university have made their respective ways into the list of ESI global top 1%. While aligning our vision closely to the particular needs of China’s social-economic growth and ecological progresses and encouraging our students and faculty to “take the vast territory of the motherland as the medium through which their papers and dissertations are written”, BFU is at the same time committed to taking an open approach in the running of the university and is constantly exploring for new and better ways to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation with its counterparts across the world so as to nurture leading talents for global ecological governance.

BFU has consistently adhered to and will always adhere to a vision that celebrates on “Championship in Earth Stewardship, Leadership in Forestry Education” and taken as its mandatory mission to “adorn a picturesque touch to the mountains, the rivers and the entire terrestrial landscape of the country so as to turn the motherland into a lovely painting created by nature”. We will stick to the nature-friendly principle that “gives priority to green development and ecological conservation” in fulfilling our obligations to build China and the world into a green home for the whole human community. Through pooling on the collective wisdom of each member of the university, BFU shall spare no effort in writing its own splendid stories and contributing its due share in bringing into reality the green vision cherished by the whole world.

Faced with the favorable opportunity afforded by the New Era, BFU is now well-positioned to forge ahead on its journey to develop itself into a world-class forestry-featuring university that is firmly rooted in China yet well-oriented to the entire world. We look forward to a bright prospect and sincerely hope that more people of high aspiration will join us on this grand expedition.
