Basic Information

The Museum of Beijing Forestry University (Museum of Beijing Forestry University) is a museum that mainly collects forest biological specimens and takes into account soil and rock specimens. It has 4 exhibition halls and 6 exhibition rooms, with a collection of more than 330,000 specimens.

The museum integrates all kinds of specimen resources, such as plants, animals, fungi, insects, wood, soil, rocks, seeds, etc., and has formed a comprehensive collection and display of specimens as a whole, carrying teaching task and educating people, scientific research, scientific popularization and cultural inheritance.

In order to more effectively carry out the museum's interpretation work and receive visitors, the Beijing Forestry University Museum has established its own dedicated interpretation team Yindie Volunteer Service Group (Silver Butterfly volunteer service group)

Specimens Collection

As of October 2012, the Museum of Beijing Forestry University has collected approximately 330,000 specimens of various types. Among them, there are nearly 200,000 plant specimens, nearly 110,000 insect specimens, more than 2,000 animal specimens, more than 2,000 fungal specimens, more than 10,000 wood specimens, and about 660 soil and rock specimens. 51 species of national first-class protected animals and 12 species of first-class protected plants are exhibited.

Exhibition Halls and Exhibition Rooms

Beijing Forestry University Museum has an exhibition area of 2800 square meters, including 4 exhibition halls and 6 exhibition rooms.

(1) Mammal Exhibition Hall

The first-floor hall is the mammal exhibition hall, which mainly displays rare and endangered mammals in China. 122 mammalian specimens are displayed, including 118 overall posture specimens, 1 head specimen and 3 SKULL specimens. There are 76 species of mammals, including 25 species of first-class national protected animals and 24 second-class national protected animals. It includes Asian elephant, giant panda, Siberian tiger, Mongolian wild donkey, snow leopard, clouded leopard, leopard, Sichuan snub-nosed monkey, Malay bear, black langurs, Tibetan antelope, takins, etc.

(2)Insect Exhibition Hall

The hall on the second floor is insect exhibition hall, with an area of 273.3 m2. The exhibition hall is divided into three parts: forest insects, insect classification and ornamental insects. There are more than 3,500 species of insect specimens, 5,038 heads and 50 dry specimens. Among them, there are more than 200 species of forest insects, 1647 heads of dry boring specimens, 3228 specimens of 3150 species of 23 orders, 214 families and 156 species of ornamental insects. In the insect exhibition hall, there are 1 species of national first-class protected animals (chrysocephalus aureus) and two species of national second-class protected animals (rhinoceros bidentata and scarabara yangcaiensis).

(3)Bird and reptile exhibition hall

The third-floor hall is a bird and reptile exhibition hall, which mainly displays rare and endangered birds and reptiles in China. The exhibition hall area is 344.3 m?. 338 specimens of 215 species of birds are displayed; 11 specimens of 8 species of reptiles are displayed. Among the bird specimens, there are 14 species of national first-class protected animals, including crested ibis, great bustard, red-crowned crane, white crane, brown horse chicken, brown-tailed pheasant, green peacock, golden eagle, etc.; 45 species of national second-class protected animals, including black face Spoonbill, demoiselle crane, golden pheasant, white-crowned pheasant, kestrel, goshawk, eagle owl, whooper swan, etc. Among the reptile specimens, there are 4 national first-class protected animals, including alligator, crocodile, python, monitor lizard, etc.; 1 national second-class protected animal, namely sea turtle.

(4)The Comprehensive Exhibition Hall

According to the evolution process of organisms, it comprehensively displays many kinds of organisms, such as unicellular organisms, multicellular organisms, arthropods, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, etc.

Virtual Museum

In order to facilitate students and other visitors to visit the Museum of Beijing Forestry University anytime and from anywhere, with the help of VR technology, a virtual museum project has been officially set up. Visitors can use electronic equipment to visit.

The virtual museum displays all the specimens in the exhibition hall and the exhibition room, and some key specimens have text descriptions, so that visitors can choose the specimen information they want to know.
