Jixian National Forest Ecosystem Observation and Research Station, CNERN, serves as experimental plots for vegetation restoration and reconstruction of the Loess Plateau and related research on ecological and economic soil and water conservation forest vegetation, as well as an important demonstration base for soil erosion prevention and control and rural economic development training in the Loess Plateau, playing an important role in forestry ecology of the Loess Plateau, and the sustainable development and management of forestry ecological projects such as the including the Farmland-to-Forests/Grasslands Conversion Program,  the Sanbei (the 3-North) Shelterbelt Forests Development Program and the NFPP program.
