The State Key Laboratory of Efficient Production of Forest Resources, approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2022,  is a collaborative establishment comprising Ningxia Forestry Research Institute Co., Ltd., Beijing Forestry University, Chinese Academy of Forestry, and Ningxia University. It is the only State Key laboratory in the field of efficient forest production.

The laboratory is oriented towards fulfilling major national strategic needs such as maintaining national ecological and resource security, implementing large-scale land afforestation, “Dual-Key” Project (Key Project for the Protection and Restoration of Key Ecological Systems) and the "Three-North" Shelterbelt Project, constructing national reserve forests, and achieving rural revitalization as well as carbon peaking and carbon neutrality targets. The laboratory focuses on overcoming key issues in China's seedling innovation, bottleneck in the breeding of high-quality tree species, challenges in large-scale landafforestation, and dificulties in achieving, high-quality forestry development.
