This article thoroughly explores the diverse functions of forests and highlights their essential roles in ecological protection, economic development, and social benefits. It emphasizes that forests have the capacity to conserve water, prevent floods, regulate droughts, and purify water quality, thereby safeguarding ecological security. With the capacity to bring in economic benefits, forests create ecological capital and green wealth through the forestry industry, supporting extensive industrial chains and numerous job opportunities. Moreover, forests boost grain production by providing abundant food resources and ensuring food security. In the context of General Secretary Xi Jinping's “Greater Food” approach, forests have become a crucial solution to addressing food security challenges.

The article underscores the vital importance of forests as carbon sinks in responding to climate change. Through photosynthesis, trees sequester carbon dioxide, offering a cost-effective, safe, and efficient method for carbon capture. Improvements in the measurement and surveillance systems for forest and grassland carbon sinks, along with the establishment of market trading mechanisms, are crucial for propelling a green, low-carbon technological transformation, contributing to the realization of peak carbon and carbon neutrality goals.

Liu pointed out that achieving the diverse functions of forests necessitates a balanced approach to ecological protection and economic and social development. It's crucial to emphasize the philosophy that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" through converting ecological strengths into economic benefits to foster sustainable development. By enhancing ecological conservation and natural education, a philosophy of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature cound be promoted, enabling people to enjoy the beauty of nature, life, and their surroundings. These initiatives will enhance the ecological, economic, and social values of forests, contributing to the building of a beautiful China.
