Editor's note: Xi Jinping thought on ecological civilization is an important component of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It provides fundamental principles and guidance for action in the new era. It is of great significance to spread, explain and publicize Xi Jinping thought on eco-civilization internationally. Green Development of Agriculture

推进农业绿色发展是农业发展观的一场深刻革命，是加快农业现代化、促进农业可持续发展的重大举措，其内涵在于让生态环保成为现代农业的明显标志，让绿色发展成为农业发展方式的战略选择。推进农业绿色发展，对保障国家粮食、资源和生态安全，守住绿水青山、建设美丽中国，维系当代人福祉和保障子孙后代永续发展具有重大 意义。

Green development of agriculture means a profound revolution of people’s outlook on agriculture. It is a major measure to accelerate agricultural modernization and promote sustainable development of agriculture. Eco-environment protection will be an apparent hallmark of modern agriculture, and green development will be a strategic choice for agriculture.

Promoting green development of agriculture is significant to guaranteeing China’s food, resource and ecological security, building a beautiful China with green mountains and clear waters, enhancing the wellbeing of the Chinese people, and sustaining the development of the Chinese nation.

农业绿色发展以尊重自然为前提，以统筹经济、社会、生态效益为目标，以利用各种现代化技术为依托，将绿色导向贯穿农业发展全过程，重视资源节约、环境友好、生态保育、产品质量，实现生产与生态协调发展，全面建立以绿色生态为导向的制度体系，基本形成与资源环境承载 力相匹配、与生产生活生态相协调的农业发展格局；努力实现耕地数量不减少、耕地质量不降低、地下水不超采，化肥、农药使用量零增长，秸秆、畜禽粪污、农膜等农业废弃物全利用，实现农业可持续发展、农民生活更加富裕、 乡村更加美丽宜居，让人民群众在分享发展红利的同时，更充分地享受绿色福利，使生态文明建设成果更好地惠及 全体人民。

Green development of agriculture must be based on respecting nature, take coordinating economic, social and ecological benefits as the goal and utilizing modern technologies as the support, and make green awareness dominate the whole process of agricultural development. With emphasis on resource conservation, environment protection, ecological conservation and product quality, progress in production and ecology will be coordinated, and ecology-oriented institutions will be established, thus creating a condition wherein agricultural development matches the carrying capacity of resources and the environment, with balance among production, living environments and ecology.

Along with green development of agriculture, the total area of arable land will not decrease, the quality of the farmland will not worsen, there will be no over-abstraction of underground water and no increase in the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and the livestock and poultry waste, crop straw and agricultural plastic sheeting will all be recycled. Agriculture will maintain sustainable growth, farmers will lead a better life, and the countryside will become beautiful and livable. The people will share the fruit of development, fully enjoy the green benefits, and the results of eco-civilization will reach each and everyone.
